If you’ve never tried rafting, now’s your chance! For a day out, this time Mascarat organised a 14km descent of the Segura river between the villages of Cieza and Blanca. The source of this 325km river is in Jaen, and it then winds its way through Murcia and Albacete before meeting the sea in Guardamar del Segura, Alicante.
Before setting off, our guides/instructors taught us the basics of rafting. Apart from needing a surprising amount of coordination, the most important thing, they said, was to “Keep Calm”, and enjoy yourself!
About half way through the descent we stopped in a gorgeous little spot renowned for its flora and fauna, the Almadenes Canyon, where we had a little lunch and recharged our batteries. And then off again downstream for the second half of an adrenaline-packed day!
